787 Dreamliner is delivered to United  

On Saturday, September 22, we took ownership of our first 787 Dreamliner. This week is a busy one as we prepare to fly the aircraft from Boeing Field in Seattle to our Houston hub. As we’ve announced in previous articles, United is the first North American carrier to take delivery of the 787, and this aircraft is the first of five new Dreamliners we expect to receive this year out of a total order of 50. Jeff Smisek, our president and CEO, said, “As the North American launch customer, we are delighted to be getting our first 787 Dreamliner. As we continue to build the world’s leading airline, we are excited for our customers and co-workers to experience this game-changing aircraft.” Later this week, our first 787 will arrive in Houston, where we’ll begin a month-long training and certification program that includes non-commercial flights to several of our domestic hubs. Our Houston hub will serve as the base for all of the initial aircraft that we induct into the fleet The 787 will enter into previously announced domestic service (November) and international service (December). We plan to operate our inaugural 787 commercial flight from Houston to Chicago on November 4 at 7:25 a.m. Read the details about our 787 cabin configuration, advanced technology and interior features.
